Incoterms in Trade and Transport Logistics: Rules, Strategies and Applications
Workshop Overview
International trade and transport transactions involve a complex set of documents, rules, and procedures which, if not fully comprehended and properly implemented, can undermine the terms of trade and conditions of delivery: confounding responsibilities and obligations, impeding cargo and shipment delivery, disrupting trade, and eliciting legal challenges and disputes. By setting out standardized terms of trade, establishing the conditions and place of delivery, and clarifying the
division of freight, logistics, insurance, customs duty and documentation costs, INCOTERMS ensure that the parties in international trade and logistics understand the obligations, costs and risks associated with shipment and goods’ delivery.
This intensive 3-day workshop is targeted at representatives of traders, shippers and cargo interests, carriers and shipping interests, logistics providers and multimodal transport operators, freight forwarders and shipping agents, transport and cargo insurers, customs’ agents and brokers, and trade finance and lending professionals. After introducing participants to the principles, procedures and documents of international trade and transport, the workshop will deep dive into INCOTERMS
articles, rules, coverage, and applications. The workshop will enable participants to acquire a deep understanding of all aspects of the most up-to-date INCOTERMS 2020 version, emphasizing the changes and common pitfalls. The workshop will guide the participants on the strategies and criteria for selecting, negotiating, and managing INCOTERMS under various risk and supply chain scenarios, transport modalities, trade commodities, and governmental legislations. In addition to lecture modules, the course will include practical applications, group exercises, two modelling assignments and several case studies.
