Green Port and Port Sustainability Management and Benchmarking
Workshop Overview
In view of the growing awareness of climate change risks and impacts, green regulations and decarbonization pathways, and ESG requirements and benchmark ratings, the port industry is evolving fast towards environmentally and socially sustainable systems. In this new era, the challenges of climate change and environmental degradation versus the opportunities of decarbonization and sustainable development will bring about are some of the key themes that will shape the port industry now and in the future. Faced with those challenges and opportunities, ports and terminals around the world are required to redefine their strategic, planning, operations and business models to embrace and implement a seamless transition towards green, efficient, and sustainable port systems.
This is a high-level and intensive 4-day course targeted at port environmental, finance, management, and policy professionals. It will enable the participants to fully understand and apprehend the contemporary environmental and sustainability trends and challenges that the global port industry faces today, and their applications and implications in the local and regional port context. Participants will be able to identify and appreciate current and future port needs and challenges; and to develop effective strategies and solutions that adapt and respond to the rapidly changing climate change and regulatory conditions and the growing sustainability requirements from port lenders, users and stakeholders. In addition to lecture modules, the course will include practical applications, group exercises, two modelling assignments and several case studies. We will share with the participants the latest developments in the field as well as practical experiences and strategic thinking on the green, digital and strategic transformation of ports.
